First attempt at Jiffy 1364, a vintage 1960's blouse. On the right is the original pattern cover from the pattern I used.
And below is my version of the blouse. Excuse the bedroom in the background. I obviously did not crop this in my exitement to post!
This pattern is the modern version of an original pattern published in the 1960's. The bust had to be adjusted and the shoulders had to be shortened and narrowed a bit. The fitting took much longer than the sewing, however, now I am now the owner of a fully modified well fitting pattern than can be used again and again. Definitely, worth the extra time and effort.
It took a great deal of reading to figure out why the blouse would not fit and exactly how to fix the fitting issues. I started with too large of a size as the size was chosen on my bust. I then went to a smaller size, adjusted the bust to make it a DDD...and it worked much better. It was still necessary to alter the shoulders slightly. There are 2 small tucks at the shoulders in bot the front and the back that are barely noticeable. Next time I plan on changing those to "ease" and making it appear to be part of the fabric. That will take some practice.
All in all, I am pleased as punch to have made an extremely comfortable and wearable garment!! Next up a wrap dress.
That pattern looks very familiar. I bet I've had it sometime during the past. Your version looks good on you. There's nothing like clothes that are fitted to you. Those mass-produced clothes fit so poorly sometimes.. I'm long-waisted and I have big legs. Pants are a problem for me. They're always too long in the inseam, and I can't wear the kind with tapered legs at all. Dresses are a problem for me if they have a waistline, because the waistline is always too high.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to get busy and start sewing this winter, I have the material stashed away and the patterns I need, so the only excuse I have is that I'm on a weight-loss project and don't know what size I'm going to end up at, OR stabilize at, so it's kind of a crapshoot right now.
Keep up the good work! Hugs..
Apparently, it was a pretty common pattern so you may just have seen it previously. It was a bit before my time, however some of the patterns from the 70's and 80's are out there that I remember.
ReplyDeleteStore bought clothing is infuriating for me. I am short with a big chest. Believe me buying clothing is miserable since hitting 40. All of it is too old or too young or too long in the torso or legs. The only store that has pants that really fit well costs a fortune. If I catch a sale, use my loyalty card and coupons I can do better than making my own. But I still end up trying on piles of pants to get a pair or two that fit well.
Fitting is the toughest part and once that is done the sewing is fairly straight forward. Good job on the wight loss by the way :). Whatever you make can be taken in and altered, if necessary. Way cheaper and easier than remaking.
Always love hearing from you....(((HUGS))).
